This project provided a challenging brief, to create an intimate private courtyard whilst maximising natural light. As the space is in a narrow a side setback close to a neighbouring property there wasn’t a lot to work with!

We designed a light timber batten pergola in white to keep the space bright but also provide a sense of enclosure. The fireplace chimney and hearth provide a substantial element and provides year round functionality.

We provided balance, interest and depth by using a series of laser cut screens which allowed the background plantings to remain visible but also provide privacy. The plantings of Giant Strelitzia, and Liriope give the courtyard green and lush feeling.
